Geography - What is life like in Mexico?

  • To know where Middle America is - Mexico
  • To identify human and physical features of Mexico – beaches, Mayan Metropolis, deserts, mountains, rainforests, varying climate
  • To compare and contrast Mexico to the UK – places of interest (landmarks Stonehenge/Chichen Itza; castles) people of interest (patron saints/leaders); food
  • To study Mexico City

 

PE

This half term our PE topics will be Netball and Cricket – We will aim to be playing in a cricket tournament next term.

Days for PE:  Wednesdays and Fridays

Expectations: All children are expected to have indoor and outdoor kit in school at all times including trainers and especially socks for girls in the colder months when they wear tights. Hair needs to be tied back and all jewellery is to be removed.

 

Music - Ukulele

Charanga Musical School’s Ukulele course is built around eighteen songs that take beginners from playing open strings to songs that use three chords.

Pupils will learn the chords C, F, G7 and G in order of difficulty, beginning with the easiest; the chord of C. This will take place over the second part of the spring term.

 

DT – Structure- Bridges

In this unit we will understand some different ways to reinforce structures. Learn how triangles can be used to reinforce bridges. We will learn properties are words that describe the form and function of materials and to understand why material selection is important based on properties. We will finish the unit by building our own truss bridges.

 

PSHE – Jigsaw

In this Puzzle the class look at the risks linked to smoking and how this affects the lungs, liver and heart. They do the same with the risks associated with alcohol misuse. They are taught a range of basic emergency procedures (including the recovery position) and learn how to contact the emergency services when needed. The children look at how body types are portrayed in the media, social media and celebrity culture. They also talk about eating disorders and people’s relationships with food and how this can be linked to negative body image pressures.

 

Computing – Data and information -Flat-file Databases

This unit looks at how a flat-file database can be used to organise data in records. Pupils use tools within a database to order and answer questions about data. They create graphs and charts from their data to help solve problems. They use a real-life database to answer a question, and present their work to others..
