This term we will be focusing on building the children’s writing

skills – in particular writing to entertain.  We will be looking at sentence structure and retelling and imitating stories.

Handwriting

The children will be encouraged to sit correctly at a table, holding a pencil comfortably and correctly. They will focus on letter formation, building on the rhymes taught in reception, starting and finishing in the right place.

Phonics

We use ELS.

The children will continue to have daily phonic lessons carrying on from those covered in their Reception Year.  The reading books they bring home from week 4 will be linked to the blends that they have been looking at during that week in school.
