Writing to inform

In our English lessons, we are going to be combining our history learning with our English writing. We will use the books Taking Flight by Adam Hancher and Little People, Big Dream: Amelia Earhart by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara to help provide us with information. We will be learning how to complete an information report about the Wright Brothers and Amelia Earhart. We will have a focus on structure, sentence types, use of conjunctions and using the past tense accurately. By the end of this unit of work, the children will have produced an information report, full of facts about a famous person from a key person in history.

Writing to Entertain

We will then be writing to entertain, using the book Julian is a Mermaid by Jessica Love as our stimuli. In these sequence, we will be looking to revise the different types of sentence, use the present tense accurately, use expanded noun phrases, use conjunctions and use apostrophes. The children will then plan their own narrative based on this story.

Focus Author

Our focus author this half term is Julian Gough. Julian Gough is the author of several novels and children's books, some BBC radio plays, and the narrative at the end of the wonderful computer game, Minecraft. We are currently reading his Rabbit and Bear series, which we are thoroughly enjoying.
