Geography:

In Geography, we will be learning about the importance of the rainforest. Firstly, we will link our learning back to Year 4, where we learnt about different biomes. We will explore the rainforest biome and its features, before locating rainforests around the world. We will then focus on the Amazon rainforest and its features, before looking at the impact of deforestation on the rainforest and the people that live there.
Art:

In Art, we will be developing our drawing skills. We will learn how to use various types of lines to emphasis emotion or draw attention, use colour and line to convey emotion or movement and use a combination of marks to create tone and depth.
Design and Technology:

In Design and Technology, we will be exploring gears and pulleys. We will look at machines that use these systems, understand how they work and design and make a gear and pulley systems. Following this, we will write questions for market research, provide feedback and research market competitors before creating a design brief for an eco-gadget bike.
P.E:

In Gymnastics, we will be developing our balancing, rolling, jumping and inverted movements. There will be the opportunity to work in partners to develop relationships such as canon and synchronisation and matching and mirroring. In Hockey, we will be developing the understanding of attacking and defending, as well as thinking about how to apply skills, strategies and tactics to outwit the opposition. The children will also explore the fair play element of the game.
Music:

A key focus of our music lessons will continue to be practising for Young Voices. We will also be learning about music from around the world and will explore singing and playing in different styles with different grooves. Our key word for this half term is ‘tempo’ – the speed of the beat and this refers to how fast or how slow the music sounds. This can stay the same throughout a song or it can change.
Computing:

In Computing, the children will learn how to create short videos in groups. The children will explore topic-based language and develop the skills of capturing, editing and manipulating video. The children will explore different filming techniques before using a storyboard to create and plan a video. This will then be used to create a video, which will be edited and shared with another group for feedback. The children will also be given the opportunity to evaluate their own video and make suggestions for the future.
Jigsaw:

In Jigsaw, we will be focusing on ‘Celebrating Difference’ We will explore different cultures from around the world, the impact of Racism, different types of bullying and how this can impact on everyone involved and the impact of money around the world. The children will also have the opportunity to experience a culture different to their own.
