At Bredon Hancock’s, we are confident writers and skilled readers!

We want our pupils to love English. We want them to have no limits to what their ambitions are and grow up wanting to be journalists, authors, librarians, editors, lawyers, or social media managers! We want them to embody our core values and be imaginative. We want to develop effective communicators using the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Our writing provision aims to promote high standards of language, oracy and literacy by equipping children with a strong command of the spoken and written language of a wide range of literature and text types, through exposure in both reading and writing lessons.

Our phonics and reading provision aims to develop fluency using a government approved phonics scheme, before introducing the children to a range of comprehension skills and techniques, which will help them to develop a deeper understanding of the range of the texts they are reading. We also wish to develop and embed a love of reading within the children by introducing and exposing the children to a range of texts across the curriculum.
