Maths

Length and Height

In our length and height lessons, we will firstly be learning how to use our rulers to measure in centimetres, before learning how to use a metre stick to measure in metres. The children will know that 100cm is equivalent to 1m. We will use our comparative symbols to compare lengths and heights, before using tallest and shortest to put measurements in order. Finally, we will explore how to use the four operations to solve problems using length and height.

Mass, capacity and temperature

In our mass, capacity and temperature lessons, we will first learn what mass and capacity are. We will learn how to compare mass, measure in grams and kilograms and use the four operations to solve worded problems about mass. We will then look at the difference between volume and capacity, learn how to measure in ml and litres, and solve problems using the four operations with volume and capacity. We will then look at how to measure temperature.

Fractions

In our fractions lessons, we will learn the difference between parts and a whole. We will recognise the terms equal and unequal, before learning how to recognise a half, a quarter, a third and a whole. We will then look at unit and non-unit fractions, before exploring the equivalence of a half and two quarters, before looking at how to find three quarters.
