Evacuation Trip From Winchcombe

We were lucky to have a school trip linked with our English text where we were sent on a steam train to be evacuated.

The fully escorted evacuation experience included a steam train journey to the 'safety of the countryside' also:

  • Presentation by Museum Education staff in role, showing a range of wartime items.
  • Firefighting practice.
  • Air raid experience including short stay in 'air raid shelter'
  • A short talk by a real WWII evacuee with the opportunity to ask questions
  • 1940s picnic lunch

We went dressed in 1940s style costume with an identity label and a gas mask box

Defford Airbase - Our Local History Study

We went on a trip to Defford Air base to learn all about it's impact on the second world war.

It was lots of fun, we learned so much.
