Geography
In geography this half term we will be learning about volcanoes and earthquakes, focus on our key question 'How do volcanoes and earthquakes affect people's lives?'. We will be learning about how and where volcanoes and earthquakes occur, what happens during an earthquake and a volcanic eruption and what the effects of these natural disasters are on humans.
Jigsaw
Our Jigsaw puzzle piece this half term is 'Dreams and Goals'. Throughout our learning we will be thinking about our dreams and ambitions and what steps we can take to achieve these. We will consider challenges that both we and others may face when trying to achieve our goals and how these challenges can be overcome.
PE
In PE this half term we will be taking part in both yoga and tag rugby.
In yoga we will be learning mindfulness and body awareness and how yoga poses and techniques can help us to connect our bodies and minds.
In tag rugby, we will be learning the skills of defense, passing, dodging a defender and tracking an opponent. We will then apply our learning to games of tag rugby.
DT
In DT this half term, we will be focusing on 'Cooking and Nutrition: Eating Seasonally'. We will research different foods and explain where they come from and why we get foods from different places around the world. We will have the exciting opportunity of making our own seasonal tarts which we will give us the chance to develop our cutting and peeling skills.
Art
In art, we will become 'Growing Artists'. We will study a range of artists and the techniques that they use. We will explore using shape to draw still life, creating tone through shading and blending, creating texture and applying observational drawing skills to create detail.
Computing
In computing we will be learning how to program using Scratch. We will explore how to use a variety of blocks to create motion, sound and events for our sprites. We will then create our own programs and build on these later on in the year.
Music
Our musical spotlight this half term is 'Composing using your Imagination'. We will have the opportunity to listen to, sing and play along with different songs. We will then compose our own melodies that we will play, using our imagination to tell a story.
French
We will be learning colours in French, expressing which they like and dislike. We will then be reading and exploring a short French story called "Ours Brun" which uses our knowledge of both colours and animal names.
