Wider Curriculum

Geography - What is so special about the Malvern Hills?:

In Geography, we will be conducting a study and fieldwork to compare Bredon Hill and Malvern Hill. We will be exploring the physical and human features of each hill, before making comparisons. We will also explore OS Maps and identify the different symbols and use these to locate different features.

Design and Technology:

In our DT lessons, we will be exploring the use of motors before designing and making a motorised product. The children will explore the simple elements of a circuit, before focusing in on motors specifically. They will explore motorised products before designing their own product.

Art:

In Art, we will be exploring how artists use space, scale and materials to create installation art that conveys ideas, transforms spaces and shapes the viewer's experience. We will be focusing on the work of Cai Guo-Qiang, who is an artist renowned for his work with gunpowder and large-scale explosions.

P.E.:

In Cricket, we will be developing our batting and fielding skills. We will expand on our knowledge of the roles of bowler, wicket keeper, fielder and batter and learn how to score runs. We will also continue to develop our team work and collaboration. In our orienteering lessons, we will be further developing our map skills to complete a range of different tasks, using our orienteering trail.

Music:

In Music, the children will have the freedom to express themselves. They will learn how to improvise music in a number of different ways. They will also explore what an interval is. An ‘interval’ in music refers to the distance between two pitches. Some notes lie right next to each other, while other notes lie further apart.

Computing:

In this unit, we will explore how to create vector drawings. The children will learn how to use different drawing tools to create images using the computers. The children will recognise that vector drawings are created using shapes and lines, and each element is called an object. The children will be working towards creating their own logo.

Jigsaw:

In Jigsaw, we will be focusing on ‘Relationships’. We will explore the importance of self-esteem and ways that this can be boosted. We will also explore internet safety and how to stay safe online. There will be a particular focus on understanding that not everyone is who they say they are and what to do if a situation arises.

French:

In French, the children will be exploring Traditional Fairy Tales written in French. They will be focusing on translating the texts using their knowledge of key words and practise reading aloud.
