Wider Curriculum

History

In history this half term, we will be exploring the question 'Would you rather live in the Stone Age, Bronze Age or Iron Age?'. We will learn about what prehistory is and explore this period of time on timelines. We will then learn about then learn about what life was like in the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age and make comparisons between the different ages. 

PE

Our PE this half term will be Outdoor Adventurous Activities (OAA) and Fundamentals. In OAA, we will be completing a variety of activities across our lessons to help us improve our teamwork and communication skills. In fundamentals, we will be developing our fundamental movement skills, including balancing, skipping, hopping, running and jumping - this will then help us throughout the year in our other areas of PE throughout the year.

Art 

In art, our unit this half term is Painting and Mixed Media: Prehistoric Art. This sequence of work has good cross-curricular links with our English and history units. We will begin by exploring some prehistoric artwork and discussing how and where these would have been drawn. We will then complete our own prehistoric drawings and recreate these on a larger scale using charcoal. After becoming familiar with drawing prehistoric art, we will then create our own cave walls and draw on these.

DT 

In DT this half term we will be learning about Mechanical Systems: Pneumatic Toys. We will start by learning how pneumatic systems work and examples of these in our everyday lives. We will then follow a design criteria to design and create a pneumatic toy before then testing out our design.

French

In our French lessons this half term we will be learning to count and say the names of the days of the week. We will also learn some French greetings and how to introduce ourselves. We will also be celebrating European Day of Languages.
JIGSAW

Our JIGSAW puzzle piece this half term is 'Being Me in my World'. In our learning, we will be thinking about who we are as individuals and how we can have a positive impact on others and our school community. 

Computing

In computing this term, we will look at 'connecting computers'. We will start by looking at how digital devices work, introducing the concepts of input, processes and output. We will then explore how digital devices help us and how they compare to non-digital tools. After this, we will look at how digital devices connect to other digital devices and develop our understanding of computer networks and their components.

Music

Our musical spotlight will be 'Writing Music Down'. We will look at how rhythm and pitch can be represented by musical symbols and how we can use these symbols to help us remember what we are going to sing and play. We will also be thinking this term about how music can bring us together.
