Attendance Matters

On Time: First Time, Every Time

Introduction

Receiving a good full-time education will give your child the best possible start in life. Attending school regularly and punctually are essential if children are to make the most of the opportunities available to them.

The school day starts at 8.45am and so all pupils are expected to be on site between 8.35am and 8.45am ready for the start of the day at 8.45am. We have this soft start to ensure that parents can park and drop off and the morning starts positively for our pupils with a warm meet and greet session.

All pupils are expected to attend every day.

Did you know?

Missed school days in First School can affect GCSE grades at High School. Government research suggests that 17 missed school days a year = 1 GCSE grade DROP in achievement.

What you can do to help

  • Make sure your child arrives at school between 8.35am and 8.45am. This encourages habits of good timekeeping and reduces any possible classroom disruption. If your child arrives after the register has closed without a good reason, this will be recorded as an ‘unauthorised’ absence for that session.
  • If your child has to miss school, it is vital that you let the school know the reason for his/her absence on the first morning of the absence by 9.00am. You can do this by contacting Miss Davies in the office 01684 772254 or by leaving a message on the absence line.
  • Bring your child to school even if they have a cough or cold. If this progressively gets worse during the day, we can give you a call.
  • Don't book holidays during term time.

Moments Matter, Attendance Counts

From the first day of term to the last, the small moments in a school day make a real difference to your child."
