Wider Curriculum

Geography:

In Geography, we will explore the physical and human features of Mexico, before exploring the climate of Mexico and making comparisons to the UK. We will make comparisons between Mexico City and London, focusing on physical and human features, before presenting a comparative study, which links closely with our English learning.

 

Design and Technology:

In our DT lessons, we will be applying our computing skills to program a Micro:bit animal monitor. We will also be using 3D CAD tools in Tinkercad to design a case, housing or stand. This unit of work will also help use to identify errors and find ways to fix them.

 

P.E.:

In Dance, we will be exploring the theme of ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll where we will be learning the hand jive. We will also be learning how to choreograph our own dance. In Netball, we will develop our understanding of attacking and defending skills, explore how to maintain possession and how to move the ball efficiently to score. We will also explore the importance of fair play.

 

Music:

In Music, the children will continue to learn from Charanga Musical School’s Ukulele course, which is built around eighteen songs that take beginners from playing open strings to songs that use three chords. The children will continue to practise the chords C, F, G7 and G.

 

Computing:

In this unit, we will explore how a flat-file database can be used to organise data in records. We will use tools within a database to order and answer questions about data. The children will also create graphs and charts from their data to help solve problems. We will also learn how to present our work to others.

 

Jigsaw:

In Jigsaw, we will be focusing on ‘Healthy Me’. We will explore the risks of smoking and alcohol, before exploring basic emergency first aid procedures. We will also explore body image and explore what makes a healthy lifestyle, including healthy eating.

 

French:

In French, the children will learn how to understand and give directions around town. They will combine nouns and adjectives in sentences to describe what they can see in a street. The children will also have the opportunity to learn about the festival of Mardi Gras.
