Wider Curriculum

History

Our historical focus this half term is on the Vikings which provides excellent curriculum links to our previous topic of the Anglo-Saxons. We will be exploring the question 'Were the Vikings raiders, traders or settlers?'. We will learn about when and why the Vikings came to Britain, how Vikings travelled, what Viking life was like and what the relationship was like between the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings. We will then draw upon our new found knowledge to answer our enquiry question.

PE

This half term we will be going swimming to develop our swimming techniques and confidence in the water.

On Thursday's we will be learning how to play rounders. We will develop our skills of throwing and catching with accuracy before learning how to bowl, bat and field. We will apply our skills to mini-games of rounders which will also help to develop our communication skills when working as part of a team

DT

Our DT focus is Structures: Constructing a Castle. We will begin by exploring how structures are made up of multiple shapes. We will then design our own castle before learning how to construct 3D nets that we can then use to construct our own castles. 

 

 

Art and Design

Our focus will be on Sculpture and 3D: Abstract shape. We will be learning how to join 2D shapes to make 3D structures. We will explore the techniques that can support us to construct and join 3D shapes. We will then draw our own plans before creating our own 3D sculpture.

MFL

In French, we will be learning how to name the different body parts. We will then get into role to hold short conversations as if we were needing to visit the doctor or pharmacy. 

 

 

Computing

Our computing topic is 'Desktop Publishing'. We will learn how to use text and images to convey and communicate messages. We will then learn ho​​​​​​​w to edit our text and layout to change how we present information to suit different purposes.

 

Jigsaw

Our Jigsaw puzzle piece this half term is 'Relationships'. We will be learning about roles and responsibilities, skills of frien​​​​​​​dship, influences on our lives and how to express appreciation to our friends and family. Our end of unit puzzle piece will be to create appreciation streamers.

 

Music

Our musical spotlight will be 'Enjoying Improvisation'. We will explore the structure of songs and recognise​​​​​​​ patterns within these. We will discuss what improvisation is and create our own improvisations over a section of a song.
