Time
We will begin this half term by looking at time. In Year 3, we will consolidate our learning on telling the time to the nearest five minutes before then learning how to tell the time to the nearest minute on an analogue clock. Once we are confident in reading times on an analogue clock, we will learn how to read times on digital clocks and explore the similarities and differences between the two. We will also explore different measurements and units of time and learn how to calculate and use durations to help us find start and end times.
Shape
Our second maths unit for this half term is shape. We will start by exploring turns and angles through a range of practical and engaging activities. We will then learn about different types of lines such as horizontal, vertical, parallel and perpendicular. Once we have learnt about this, we will apply our new knowledge of angles and lines to help us recognise and describe 2D shapes. Once we are secure on our knowledge of 2D shapes, we will then move on to recognising and describing 3D shapes and practice making these.
Statistics
Our final piece of mathematical learning in Year 3 will be Statistics. We will learn how to interpret and draw pictograms and bar charts. We will then collect and represent our own data and learn how to use two-way tables.
