Writing to Entertain:

Our first writing unit is based around the text 'Letters from the Lighthouse' by Emma Carroll. This text links closely with our History topic of World War 2. Within this unit of work, we will be exploring and refining our sentence construction, exploring vocabulary choices and learning about the writing style of an author, in order to create our own version of the story.

Writing to Inform:

We will also be exploring non-fiction writing styles, relating to our World War 2 topic. The children will explore the features of a set of instructions, learn about and practise the writing techniques before creating a piece of informative writing based on ‘How to Survive an Air Raid.

Our focus author:

Our focus author is Michael Morpurgo. Michael Morpurgo was born on 5th October 1943. Before becoming an author, he was in the army and he trained as a teacher. He also set up a charity called Farms for City Children with his wife, where he worked for over 25 years. He has written around 130 books including War Horse, Private Peaceful, The Butterfly Lion and Kensuke's Kingdom.
