Wider Curriculum

History

In History, we will be exploring the question 'How schools have changed over time?'. We will recognise that although schools have been in the local area for a long time, they have not always been the same. We will recognise historical similarities and differences, using a range of sources to recognise the continuity between children's lives past and present.

Art

In Art, we will understanding tone and texture when drawing. We will begin by exploring different drawing materials. We will then go on a texture hunt to explore different textures around our school grounds. After we have looked at texture, we will explore how we can create different tones through shading, talking about the 4 rules. Our final piece will be for us to sketch and refine observational drawing.

Computing

This term, our focus is on Creating Media - Digital Photography. The children will learn to recognise that different devices can be used to capture photographs and will gain experience capturing, editing, and improving photos. Finally, they will use this knowledge to recognise that images they see may not be real.

P.E

In gymnastics, pupils will learn, explore and develop basic gymnastic actions on the floor and using apparatus. They will develop gymnastic skills of jumping, rolling, balancing and travelling individually and in combination to create short sequences and movement phrases. Pupils will develop an awareness of compositional devices when creating sequences to include the use of shapes, levels and directions. They will learn to work safely with and around others and whilst using apparatus. Pupils will be given opportunities to provide feedback to others and recognise elements of high quality performance.

In our ball skills unit, the children will develop their fundamental ball skills such as throwing, catching, rolling, hitting a target, dribbling with both hands and feet and kicking. They will look to perform these skills with increasing control and accuracy using co-ordination and balance.

Jigsaw

In Jigsaw, we will be 'Celebrating Difference'. We will explore the similarities and differences between boys and girls, recognising that people often make assumptions. We will explore bullying and why it happens, with a focus on feelings and celebrating being kind to others. As a class, we will explore what is right and wrong and know how to look after ourselves. We will understand that it is ok to be different and that we shouldn't judge others if we are different. Our differences make us special and unique.

Music

Playing together is a very important part of learning music. There are many ensembles, bands and groups you can play in. One of these groups is an orchestra. The children will explore and appraise a range of different songs and learn how to play different instruments, including the recorder to compose their own aspects of the song. They will learn to find and keep a steady beat, respond to different high and low pitches and improvise in order to create their own beat. When singing, the children will learn the correct posture and learn how to express the words with meaning.
