History:
How has the monarchy changed over time?
In our history lessons, the children will be exploring the influence the monarchy has had in our country. The children will firstly be identifying the term ‘monarch’, before identifying the most recent monarchs and the powers that they have. We will then identify which monarch – William I or Elizabeth I - had the most power and had the biggest influence on our country and the way we live today. We will begin our learning at Warwick Castle.
Art:
Sculpture and 3D art
In our art lessons, we will be using clay. Firstly, we will be exploring how to roll shapes successfully and make a range of marks in the clay. We will then make a basic pink pot and join a shape using the scoring and slipping technique. Finally, we will explore how to create a house design and create a clay house tile with recognisable features.
Computing:
Making Music
In Computing, we will explore how we can make patterns and use those patterns to make music with both percussion instruments and digital tools. The children will create different rhythms and tunes, using the movement of animals for inspiration. We will then share and compare the digital creations and the percussion creations.
Physical Education:
Net and Wall Games/Target Games
In P.E., we will first be focusing on developing our understanding of attacking and defending principles, such as using a ready position to defend. We will also look at developing our throwing, catching, tracking and hitting skills to recognise how to score points. In our target games unit, we will use our rolling, kicking and tracking skills and apply these in context. The children will work using a range of different sized balls and they will have the opportunity to work individually, in small groups and in teams to help understand how to hit a target in different situations and different games.
Jigsaw:
Relationships
In our Jigsaw lessons, our focus is ‘Relationships’. We will explore the relationships we have with our family, staying safe, conflict between friends and how to resolve this and recognising when secrets need to be shared. We will also recognise and appreciate people who can help us in our family, school and community and find ways to show this appreciation to others.
Music:
Exploring Improvisation
In Music, we will explore the question ‘How Does Music Make Us Happy?’ We will explore how to keep a steady beat, keeping a beat when improvising and respond to the music. We will look at three styles of music: Rock, Jazz and Calypso. Singing and listening are at the heart of each lesson. We will play, improvise and compose music, using a selection of notes on the glockenspiel.
Design and Technology:
Structures
In our DT lessons, we will be developing the skills that we learnt in Year 1 when making our windmills to create a solid and stable structure. We will refer back to our science lessons to identify man-made and natural structures, explore how to make a structure stable, explore and create a model using appropriate materials and construction techniques. Our end aim in to create a stable structure that supports a teddy bear, based on the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’.
