English

Writing to Inform:

We will use ‘How to Grow a Plant’ to write to inform and create a set of instructions. The children will revisit imperative verbs, time words and creating clear, concise sentences. We will also look at sequencing sentences to ensure that our instructions are in the correct order for someone to follow, using numbered steps and time adverbials.

Writing to Entertain:

We will use the text ‘The Queen’s Hat’, which we will innovate to create our own version of the story. We will explore the structure of the text, sentence composition and types, descriptive language and a range of co-ordinating and subordinating conjunctions. This half term we will continue to embed the parts of sentence. The children will also be introduced to commas, apostrophes for contracted forms, apostrophes for possession and a wider range of suffixes.

Reading:

In our reading lessons, the children will continue to be exposed to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts. Our lessons are focusing on developing our understanding of 5 key skills: retrieval, prediction, word meaning, sequencing and inference. The class has one focus author this half term: Tom Percival. We have already read some of his texts in our Whole Class Reading lessons and the children are thoroughly looking forward to sharing more texts that have been written by him.
