Starting Reception

Congratulations if your child has been offered a place in our incredible Reception class for September 2025. Our transition journey is a bespoke approach that begins many months before your child steps over the threshold of the Early Years classroom. We will be sending a wealth of information out to our new families over the summer term, but want to signpost you to the Government endorsed Starting Reception document.

This document lists some key skills that schools nationally expect children to learn before their first day. Although rest assured, at Bredon Hancock's we understand that children develop at their own unique rate. Practicing the skills in this document will, however, make your child’s journey to Reception as positive as possible. If your child is already at nursery, in pre-school, or with a childminder, those professionals will work with you and your child to help get them ready too. There’s lots you can do at home to build your child’s confidence and independence, helping them feel emotionally and practically prepared to start school.
