Christingle:
The children had wonderful time working with member of the church to make Christingles for the Christingle service. The children were very knowledgeable about the different parts of the Christingle and were keen to share this. The orange represents the world. The red ribbon (or tape) symbolises the love and blood of Christ. The sweets and dried fruit represent all of God's creations. The lit candle represents Jesus's light in the world, bringing hope to people living in darkness. The children then had the opportunity to take part in the Christingle service at St Giles Church, where they shared some beautiful prayers they had written.
Shape sorting in Maths
The children have been learning all about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes in our maths lessons. The children were given the task of sorting 2D shapes into a Venn Diagram using two different criteria. The children were fantastic at sharing the reasoning behind their sorting and could justify why certain shapes didn't meet any of their criteria.
Chinese New Year
The children absolutely adored learning about the story of Chinese New Year. They were fascinated to find out the significance of the 'Year of the Snake' and were keen to find out about the different animals that represented their birth year and the birth years of the adults that work with them. They took part in a dance workshop and learnt about different things that would be included in the festival and celebration.
DT - Mechanisms - Making a Moving Monster
The children have been exploring pivots, levers and linkages in their Design and Technology lessons. They explored different toys that had a range of mechanisms before designing their own moving monster. This caused a LOT of excitement as the children were keen to show off their creativity. The children then demonstrated excellent resilience to attach all of the different components to create a successful moving monster.
Computing
The children have been learning about robot algorithms in our computing lessons. They have learnt the components of a successful algorithm and have even become 'bug hunters', where they've had to find the errors within a sequence and problem solve to find the solution. The children planned and create their own Beebot mats to see if they could identify different algorithms to get to their end point.
Little Litter Warriors
The children were lucky enough to have Karen come and visit from Little Litter Warriors. The Little Litter Warriors programme is designed to highlight community litter pollution through a fun and engaging litter pick or hunt. The pupils learn first-hand about their local environment and the impact litter has on the wildlife, marine life, and their community areas. The children took part in a litter pick of the school playground and were amazed how much litter they could find!
National Storytelling Week
The children have loved having their grown ups come in to school and share stories with them. They have thoroughly enjoyed seeing a wide range of books, which have now been added to our 'Reading Journey' wall. The discussion around books and sharing of stories has been wonderful to see.
Jigsaw - Dreams and Goals
This half term, we have explored our dreams and goals. We've looked at our strengths and difficulties and explored ways that we can counteract our difficulties. As part of our end goal, we worked collaboratively to think of designs before working to create our own birds to display in our 'Garden of Dreams and Goals'.
