History:

How was school different in the past?

In History, we will be exploring how schools have changed over time. We will recognise that although schools have been in the local area for a long time, they have not always been the same. We will recognise historical similarities and differences, using a range of sources to recognise the continuity between children's lives past and present.

Art:

Drawing: Tell a story

In Art, we will be using our drawing skills to tell a story. We will experiment using different tools and different ways to create texture and draw these to make up an objects. We will explore what observational skills are and use these to add detail to our drawing. We will make sketches before developing them into a character, adding detail to enhance our drawing. We will explore how to draw facial features in different ways to convey expression. Our final outcome will be to create scenes from our imagination.

Computing:

Creating Media: Digital Painting

This term, our focus is on Creating Media - Digital Photography. The children will learn to recognise that different devices can be used to capture photographs and will gain experience capturing, editing, and improving photos. Finally, they will use this knowledge to recognise that images they see may not be real.

P.E:

Gymnastics and Team Building

In gymnastics, pupils will learn, explore and develop basic gymnastic actions on the floor and using apparatus. They will develop gymnastic skills of jumping, rolling, balancing and travelling individually and in combination to create short sequences and movement phrases. Pupils will develop an awareness of compositional devices when creating sequences to include the use of shapes, levels and directions. They will learn to work safely with and around others and whilst using apparatus. Pupils will be given opportunities to provide feedback to others and recognise elements of high quality performance.

In team building, pupils will develop their teamwork skills. They will develop key skills of communication and problem solving. They will learn to discuss, plan and reflect on ideas and strategies. They will lead a partner whilst considering safety. Pupils will have the opportunity to show honesty and fair play. They also begin to use basic map skills.

Jigsaw:

Celebrating Difference

In Jigsaw, we will be 'Celebrating Difference'. We will explore the similarities and differences between boys and girls, recognising that people often make assumptions. We will explore bullying and why it happens, with a focus on feelings and celebrating being kind to others. As a class, we will explore what is right and wrong and know how to look after ourselves. We will understand that it is ok to be different and that we shouldn't judge others if we are different. Our differences make us special and unique.

Music:

Playing in an Orchestra

Playing together is a very important part of learning music. There are many ensembles, bands and groups you can play in. One of these groups is an orchestra. The children will explore and appraise a range of different songs and learn how to play different instruments, including the recorder to compose their own aspects of the song. They will learn to find and keep a steady beat, respond to different high and low pitches and improvise in order to create their own beat. When singing, the children will learn the correct posture and learn how to express the words with meaning.
