Phonics:

Phonics is currently taught daily in Reception, Year 1 and 2. At Bredon Hancock's, we use Essential Letters and Sounds to teach our phonics. Essential Letters and Sounds is a full SSP programme. The programme has been carefully planned to ensure the progression aligns with fully decodable books published by one of the market leading publishers. It ensures that the “Tricky words” – harder to read and spell words- from the original guidance and the National Curriculum have been included and we have ensured the sequence of teaching these words is fully aligned with the matched decodable books. Each week, children will come home with a book that is linked to the sound that has been practised in school and is fully decodable, alongside a banded reading book and a share at home (reading for pleasure) book.
