Maths

Place Value

At the beginning of every year, we explore place value, as this underpins every area of maths that we will encounter throughout the year. We will explore how to recognise tens and ones, partitioning, writing numbers to 100 (in words, expanded form and partitioning) and using a number line to count in 10s and 1s. We will also learn how to compare objects and numbers, before learning to count in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s.

Addition and Subtraction

Following our place value unit, we will move on to addition and subtraction. We will revisit bonds to 10 and 20, before looking at bonds to 100. We will add and subtract 1s, add by making 10, add three 1-digit numbers before adding and subtracting across a 10. Children will also learn how to add and subtract from a two-digit number. Finally, we will compare number sentences and explore missing number problems.
