Writing to Inform

Our first writing outcome is to create a non-chronological report based on Kenya. This builds upon the learning that we have completed in our Geography lessons. We will learn about the structure of our non-chronological report and continue to embed our understanding of different kinds of sentences, especially the 'statement' and 'question'. We will also learn about possessive apostrophes and present tense verbs.

Writing to Entertain

We will also be writing to entertain, using 'The Queen's Hat' by Steve Antony as our writing stimulus. We will be learning how to innovate to create our own version of the story using effective vocabulary, accurate sentences, correct use of possessive apostrophes and a clear, logical sequence to ensure our story is in order.

Writing to inform/Writing to Persuade

'The Secret of Black Rock' will provide the opportunity to write to inform and write to persuade, which will prepare us for our transition to Year 3, where we will be learning further persuasive techniques. Firstly, we will be focusing on create a set of instructions to guide visitors to Black Rock. We will be looking at including a title, number steps, use of imperative verbs, providing commands and using diagrams to support the information provided. We will then create a persuasive letter to persuade the reader to not kill Black Rock. We will look at providing a clear title, using conjunctions to share an opinion, using accurate punctuation and capital letters.
