Class 5

Homework 15-02-19 to 28-02-19

Topic

With the up coming trip to Malvern Outdoor Elements Centre it would be wonderful for the children to complete some domestic challenges this half term holiday! We would like the children to make their own packed lunch for a trip out during their half term break, including a sandwich, and also to make their own bed! This would require them to take a pillow case on and off and also the duvet case on and off. These are both essential skills for them to manage during their time during the Malvern residential. Some photos of their efforts would be brilliant in order to place into their homework books when they are back in school on Monday 25th February 2019.

Malvern Meeting

On Monday 25th February 2019 there is the arranged Malvern meeting at 3.15pm in the hall. Present will be a representative from Malvern who will be there to answer any of your questions about the trip. We all hope this will be helpful for you.

Bikeability

On Friday 1st March 2019 the children (weather permitting) will complete their Bikeability course. This will mean we will need all the bikes back to school and on the large playground on the morning of Friday 1st March 2019. The children will all go out again and take their final assessment with the instructors Robin and Pam. The bikes will then need to be returned home after school on Friday 1st March 2019.

Take Over Day 2019

Please could the children come dressed smartly for their role in school tomorrow. We have talked to the boys about wearing smart clothes, sensible smart shoes, if possible no jeans, and a tie is optional. They will also need to bring a water proof jacket, as usual, to keep them dry on the playground.

The girls have also been encouraged to come to school smartly ready to be teachers. Sensible shoes are essential and they have a choice of having their hair up or down. It would be a sensible choice to have a bobble in school just in case they do need to tie it back. As usual a water proof coat is essential.

Sports coaches can come to school in tracksuits and trainers, ready to take their lessons tomorrow. If they would like to wear shorts, it may be an idea to have them on under their tracksuit as the start of the day will be cold.

We have also talked to the children that they do not need to wait on the playground tomorrow. They can come straight into school ready to go to their class or teacher to begin their work. This may be 5 or 10 minutes earlier than usual, but they need to prepare their lessons!

Many thanks

Mr Dennis

Homework       8.2.19 to 14.2.19

Topic

This week we will be starting to prepare for Take Over Day. The children, over the weekend, need to start thinking about what they would like to do with the children in the roles they have been given. Below are a list of the jobs the children will be doing and some of the activities they will be asked to do:

Head teachers and Deputy Head teachers -  plan a Collective Worship

Teachers - teach a short lesson about a favourite subject

Teaching Assistants - teach a small mathematics activity to a group of children in their class

ICT Technicians - teach a small group pf children about an APP on the iPad

Sports Coaches - plan a small PE lesson based on their favourite sport

All the children will need to do is come up with an idea and jot some notes down ready for planning their activities on Monday.

Due to Bikeability we have not been able to test the children on their spellings or times tables, so the homework will remain the same as last weeks. The last three groups did not complete the Bikeability course due to the weather conditions. The team from Bikeability will send us a date when they can come in and work with us again to allow all the children to complete their course.

Many thanks

Mr Dennis

Homework       31.1.19 to 7.2.19

Bikeability

Please could the children come prepared for the weather next week. The children are able to bring jogging bottoms to wear over their shorts or trousers. They can also bring trainers in to wear whilst riding the bikes. Both instructors have said the children are able to wear gloves, bring warm waterproof coats and beanie hats to wear underneath helmets. I hope this information helps.

Thanks

Mr Dennis

Topic

This week I would like the children to be able to access Education City and try out some of the new games that have been uploaded. In particular could you have a look at the Literacy games involving colons and semi colons and the Maths games involving fractions.

We will also be developing our new STEM project and will begin building our Space Rockets and investigating shadows. Next week it would be wonderful of the children were able to bring in an empty 'pop' bottle and a named torch.

Maths

The children are exploring their knowledge of times tables and division facts:

Group 1: please explore the 9 and 11 times table and the associated division facts,

eg 5 x 9 = 45 so 45 ÷ 5 = 9

Group 2: please explore the 9 times table

Spellings

We are back to weekly spellings and the spelling rules. The children's spellings are attached below for their own groups.

Thanks

Mr Dennis

Homework       25.1.19 to 31.1.19

Topic

Next week in Year 5 the children will be researching and creating their own persuasive letters in order to apply for 'Takeover Day' jobs within school. For homework this week, I would love the children to create a piece of work, within their homework books, explaining which job they would like in school and why. This can be in the form of a mind map, poster, letter, annotated picture etc. It would be wonderful if they could choose two different options, a top choice, and a second choice!

The jobs available this year are: Head teacher, Deputy Head, class teacher, teaching assistant, sports coach, ICT technician and dinner supervisor.

Good luck, and I cannot wait to see what the children come up with!

Maths

The children are exploring their knowledge of times tables and division facts:

Group 1: please explore the 7 and 8 times table and the associated division facts,

eg 5 x 8 = 40   so   40 ÷ 8 = 5.

Group 2: please explore the 2 and 8 times tables.

Spellings

As the spellings last week are below. We are back to weekly spellings and the spelling rules. The children's spellings are attached below for their own groups.

Thanks

Mr Dennis

Once again the children are exploring their knowledge of times tables and division facts:

Homework         11.01.19 to 17.01.19

Topic

This week we are starting of homework with our new Space topic. In the children's homework books I would love them to be able to research a little bit about our own solar system. The focus of this could be about the planets, the sun, the moon, anything that grabs their interest! It can be presented within their homework books in anyway. This could be mind map, facts, a labelled picture, however they would like to present their information.

Maths

The children are exploring their times tables and looking at speed of recall and the associated division facts.

Group 1: please practise the four times table and the associated division facts eg 2 x 4 = 8    so    8 ÷ 4 = 2.

Group 2: please practise the four and the six times tables.

Spellings

We are currently looking at Exception words. Could the children please pratise their groups relevant spellings for a test on Thursday 24th January.

Homework       8.12.18 to 14.12.18

Spellings

A reminder that the children will be having a spelling test on a mix of all the spellings they have practised over the term. All the spellings are on the website within our Class 5 page. The test will take place on Thursday 13th December 2018.

Many thanks

Mr Dennis

Class 5 Homework 30.11.18 to 7.12.18

Topic Homework

Please could the children complete their own Anderson Shelters. We are having a Class 5 Museum at the end of term and would love to have the shelters on display for everyone to see. If you would like to make them out of cake, it would be fantastic, but please only bring these in on the morning of Wednesday 12th December.

The children also have a comprehension to complete. This is a wonderful chance to work together on developing comprehension answers about a classic text. This children will then stick this into their homework books and we will mark and discuss the answers together as a class. Education City is also available for all children to access and play!

Spellings

We are not setting any new spellings this week. If you could revise all the spellings the children have done over the term and we will have an end of term test during the week beginning 10th December 2018. All the spellings lists will be in your child's spelling book and I will also place the master lists below.

Times Tables

Please could the children continue to practise their 9 and 12 times tables.

Thanks you

Mr Dennis
